Short version: this site measures traffic, shows no ads, stores nothing you type, and does not sell, rent, or share anything about you. Who publishes it is stated at the foot of this page.

What runs on the page

Google Analytics 4. Counts visits and page views and reports which pages get read, roughly where visitors come from, and what kind of device they use. It sets cookies to tell a returning browser from a new one and receives your IP address, the page URL, the referrer, and an approximate location derived from the address. It runs in its default configuration: no custom events, no goals, no conversion tracking. It is used to see which guides are worth writing more of. Google's handling of the data is governed by Google's own privacy policy.

Microsoft Clarity. Records how pages are used: scrolling, clicks, and where people give up, as session recordings and heatmaps. It receives your IP address, device and browser details, and on-page interactions. Form fields and typed text are masked. It is used to find pages that are confusing, not to identify anyone. Microsoft is the data controller for what Clarity collects, under the Microsoft privacy statement.

Both tags load after the page is idle, so they never slow down the article you came for, and neither is loaded at all if your browser blocks it.

Hosting. Pages are served by Vercel, which necessarily processes the request your browser makes, including your IP address, in order to serve the page. Nothing else runs at the hosting layer: no hosting-side analytics, no edge script.

What does not run

No ad network, no retargeting pixel, no social-media tracker, no fingerprinting, no comment system. There is no account to create and nothing to log in to.

Affiliate links

No affiliate link exists on this site today. When one does, it will go through this site's own redirect rather than a third party's, and this page will say what a click records before the first such link goes live. The affiliate disclosure lists every program and its status.

Newsletter

The newsletter signup is not live. When it is, the address you give will be handled by Beehiiv, the newsletter provider, under Beehiiv's own policy, and used for the newsletter only. Every issue will carry an unsubscribe link, and this page will describe the signup before it is switched on.

Email

The way to reach the site is the address on the contact page. An email you send is held in that mailbox and nowhere else. There is no form on this site, so nothing you type here is stored anywhere.

Cookies and consent

The only cookies are the ones the two tags above set. This site is written for United States readers and shows no consent banner. Both vendors expect a consent signal for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, and each restricts what it collects there when no signal is given. If you use a tracker blocker, everything on the site still works. Nothing is gated behind accepting a cookie.

Retention and deletion

Nothing submitted through this site is retained, because nothing can be submitted. Analytics data follows the default retention windows set by Google and Microsoft. Email you send stays in the mailbox until you ask for it to be removed.

To have something removed, or to ask for a copy of whatever is held about you, write to the address on the contact page. Requests are honored within 30 days, and where the answer is that nothing is held, the reply says so. If a request needs identity verification, the minimum that establishes it is asked for and nothing more.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent information to the site, write to the contact address and it will be deleted.

Governing law and changes

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States, consistent with the terms of use. It is updated when the site's data practices change, and the date at the top is the date the text was last checked end to end against what the site actually does.
